here's an idea. How about we start an AMD build contest, hoping that it can
turn into a new AMD tradition in the future?
I belong to other Yahoo civilian-aviation groups, and in one of them, "Wings
of Peace", they hold 1-2 contests a year, where they choose a theme, and
members build and submit models that fit that theme. The group's members
then vote on the entered models, and the top three winners get a prize,
which is donated by other members (either someone's spare kit they don't
want anymore, or a merchant's donation, etc).
So in a nutshell, here's what we could do in a similar fashion:
- We would choose a theme (such as 'Jets in the 60s' for example, which
would mean the entries should represent a jet airliner type that saw service
in that period, and are done in period liveries), or we could have it open
themed, i.e., anything goes), etc
- The AMD members would decide on the theme by means of suggestions, then a
poll/vote on the top 3 suggestions. We could even have more than one theme
going in one contest.
- Photo Albums on our website will be created where entrants state what they
are going to build.
- During the contest's timeframe, the entrants send regular updates and
progress pictures which are posted in the albums (this helps seeing how
someone goes about building something, tips on solving problems, how to do
certain modeling tasks, serve as build reviews, etc.)
- At the end of the contest, the final model pictures are posted, then the
group members get a chance to vote on the top 3 models.
- We can hopefully have some prizes donated by other members or merchants,
and the winners will choose their prize from that prize pool, in finish
sequence.
Something like this could stimulate more builds, group activity, research
and dissemination of information, exchange of modelling ideas, and even
maybe motivate some folks (like me for example!) to get off their posteriors
and finally finish that darned kit that has been lanquishing in the back of
the shelf...
That's all I can think of now, if you guys are interested in something like
this concept, let's please discuss it. I'd like everyone to get involved
and give their opinion.
Cheers,
Christos
