Modified DC3s could seat up to 32 unhappy, crowded passengers. The extra rows were placed in the front of the aircraft, after doing away with the forward cargo hold. That where you will see the most common "8th" window that is added. There isn't enough head room in the back for additional seating. They also used a 4 abreast seating, which is way too small. But since PBA was only making short hops... Remember that the original DC3s, the DST, had separate ladies and gents toilets in back...but wait, there's more!....next to the toilet were separate dressing areas for ladies and gents too! I'm surprised they couldn't find room for a bowling alley...or showers! Of course they also didn't have to deal with a holding tank or blue ice...it was a one way drop...Please do not flush toilet while in the Station! Did I mention the Honeymoon Cabin in front? Most DC3s ended up with a fibreglas toilet off to the side in the rear - but now with a tank! Here are a couple of shots of FS Knoxville... Michael |
