I have that kit & I've done a little research on that subject. The instructions that came with the kit do have a black & white picture of Pan Am Boeing Vertol KV-107-II-2 N107PA in the afoementioned classic 1960s Pan Am livery. You are right, that livery was apparently short-lived and pictures are very, very rare. That's the only pict of a PA 107 that's I've ever seen, but at least it confirms its existence.
NY Airways took delivery of five BV-107-II-2's in 1962, serial numbers 2-6. But, ironically, only a few BV-107's were manufacured in the US, they were quickly licensed to Kawasaki in Japan, who built the vast majority of the passenger versions.
In 1963 one of NYA's BV-107's was lost in an accident at JFK (N6673D). By the time its replacement was delivered (N6682D sn 101) in 1964 the ships were apparently being made in Japan, which means they were now "KV" 107s. (source: Boeing website)
The Pan Am birds were also a different block from the original NYA line. They were KV-107s delivered in 1964, sn 107, 108, reg. N107PA & N108PA. They were purchased by Pan Am specifically for joint service with NYA from the three local airports to the Pan Am building (perhaps this explains the PA livery), unlike the original NYA birds which also flew to many other places. In fact, N6682D was also purchased by Pan Am for joint service with NYA.
Apparently the Pan Am livery was very short lived (so far only seen on N107PA) and they were painted in the standard NYA colors, with a few minor changes as the years passed by. All three Pan Am KV-107's can be seen in the Clint Eastwood movie "Coogan's Bluff" and many are now owned by Columbia Helicopters (see their website).
I've never heard of any Pan Am 107 service in Europe. My best guess is that only N107PA & maybe N108PA briefly wore the PA colors.
I live in the area & still recall seeing them flying around when I was a young kid - hence my interest. A very disctinctive sound too. I can scan that picture for you if you wish.
Hope this helps, and feel free to contact me if you want to discuss the NYA/PA BV-107's in more detail. I plan on building a few myself by converting the 1/72 (Fujimi) and 1/48 (Academy Minicraft). In fact, I'm trying to make decals for them.
best, Vince, JFK
