Re: [AMD] Endless Commercials

Frank,

Your original email did not state anything about builds and such, just that
there were too many commercials. Now you mention builds and such. That's
two different concerns, and not really related. There is no requirement
that if someone asks about product XYZ that they have to show photos or
similar from a build.

AMD has traditionally been a discussion and research group mostly, as up
until a year or so ago, no attachments were allowed on AMD, so historically
people put their photos in the Photos section and did not send emails. You
can find photos of in-progress and/or completed models in the Photos section
it the AMD group's pages, and you can spend a day there looking at completed
models to your heart's content.

Remember, this is an email-distribution list, and not a mutli-subject forum
as websites have; everything goes through a single channel (this email
list), and we do not have a website, besides what Yahoo has as the group's
homepage ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/airlinermodelling ) That's why
members have the option of getting every single email, a daily digest, or
read the messages on the Yahoo group's page.

If we were to have the traditional forum setup, there would be a separate
section for product announcements, sales, etc, so anyone would choose to
read what they wanted. There is free software out there that will setup a
multi-subject/type forum, like what you find on AirlinerCafe for example,
but someone has to spend the time and set it up and operate it (in addition
to operating the res of the website besides the forums). I own the
airlinermodelling.com domain and have offered in the past to host AMD on
there, but I cannot do it all by myself so I have not pursued it.

But, where are the BUILDS that result from all the new products, offers,
sales, etc.?

Mathematically, Christos, compare the percentage of posted in-progress
and/or completed projects to general questions, sales, new product post over
the last SIX months and I doubt if it would come to 5%!

Thus the point of my original post; it's like going to the Oshkosh Fly-In
where thousands of avid aviation enthusiast camp, compare notes, discuss the
latest aircraft, buy & sell memorabilia.... but NO aircraft show up! It
becomes a flea market.

I applaud Don for stepping up to the challenge and encourage others to post
photos of how you have applied, and are applying all these ideas,
suggestions, and new products.
