Our web site shows a scanned image of the box from the first delivery we had of the kit and it clearly says that it is 1:144 scale which is how we have always advertised it. Now it seems to be coming through in the same box but it now says 1:72 scale. It's a complete mystery which I will try to get an answer to, I can only think that someone has made a big mistake on the second print run for the box.
David's hopeful idea that a 1:72 kit might be on the way is a nice idea but if it was 1:72 scale it would not fit into this box in any case.
Reverting to the Fly kit of the DC-9, it may have been noticed but not mentioned that the kit number 14401 has a different nose. I am not sure of the origins of this version but there are several images on airliners.net of this bulged nose but no one seems to know anything about it's use except it was for some test purposes around 2005-6. It started life with Midway Air lines. The kit is the same plastic as the other two versions with the bulged nose done in resin as a conversion.
The kit originates, as do so many others these days, in the Czech Republic. From the box it appears that there may be more versions coming but these will only be the same kit with different decals. They are SAS, US Navy C-9 and USAF in an Air Force One type paint scheme. And I would certainly take issue with Graeme's review on Airliner Cafe the 'The kit comes in a crappy end opening box, with the colour markings and decal placement on the rear of the box'. Crappy it ain't but the rest of his description is correct. The box costs money and clearly it would be possible to put it in a different box but all it would do is put the cost of the kit up. Are people prepared to pay more for a kit just to get a better box? If you prefer one with a separate lid, and I won't argue with you on that subject just keep the next one you do and use that box for the models with end openings.
And I will keep out of the ongoing discussion on advertising on AMD but if you want to ban it just say so and I won't post anything again.
